ORLEN set to expand its Czech hydrogen refuelling station network

It has been reported that ORLEN Group plans to expand its network of hydrogen refuelling stations in the Czech Republic.

H2 View understands that ORLEN currently offers two hydrogen filling stations for cars, buses and trucks in the Czech Republic, along with 267 electric charging points at 66 gas stations, according to H2 Times.

The company will begin the construction of its own high speed charging infrastructure and will continue working on three hydrogen stations in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, on top of its existing stations in Prague and Litvínov.

Vladimír Dočekal, Director of the ORLEN gas station network, said, “We want to continue increasing our market share. On the one hand, by offering quality fuel and refreshments at favorable prices, and on the other hand, by further expanding the network through larger or smaller acquisitions.”

He added that even if conventional fuels prevail for another decade or so, the company will remain to develop the infrastructure needed for alternative fuels to thrive. “We see the building of this infrastructure as a necessary investment in maintaining competitiveness in the future,” Dočekal said.

ORLEN Group opened its Prague hydrogen refuelling station in the city’s Barrandov district last year (2023). The ORLEN Benzina station features two dispensers that come equipped with specially designed gun noses, offering a 700bar pressure for cars and 350bar for larger vehicles.

The company also announced in 2022 that it would develop three hydrogen refuelling stations in Wałbrzych, Poznań and Katowice, in Poland.

Expected to enter into service by early 2025, the stations were supported with financial support from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management’s electric vehicle charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure programme.
