HUI collaborates with medical cannabis producer to support waste-to-hydrogen ambitions

Hydrogen Utopia International (HUI) has moved into cannabis cultivation to support its green hydrogen production technology

HUI developed a technology and business model for producing hydrogen, aiming to address climate change and turn non-recyclable and end-of-life material into alternative energy sources.

To accelerate the development of its first plant, HUI has taken out an option for a 49% stake in medical cannabis cultivator, Ohrid Organics, to make it more financially self-sufficient. HUI believed the stake would help fund its core business, building the world’s ‘first’ plastic waste-to-hydrogen plant.

Operating a cultivation facility in North Macedonia, Ohrid Organics recently achieved a milestone in terms of medical cannabis certification, receiving approval for the Control Union Medical Cannabis Standard – Good Agricultural Practice. This covers medical cannabis propagation, cultivation and post-harvest processes.

The company’s Directors stated, “This certification is a pivotal achievement. It grants us access to the thriving and well-established Israeli medical cannabis market.”

Last June (2023), H2 View’s Content Director, Rob Cockerill, described HUI’s project as a significant example of the circular economies approach in evidence and the low-carbon hydrogen value chain being built-out.
