HEA launches hydrogen projects map

The Hydrogen Energy Association (HEA) has launched the UK’s first free-to-access Hydrogen Projects Map.

The map focuses on projects that are post-FEED (front-end engineering design) phase, or have been shortlisted for public funding, mapping more than 70 low-carbon hydrogen production projects in operation or close to final investment decision (FID).

It includes more than 100 members covering the full value chain, each project reflecting low-carbon production, hydrogen infrastructure, hydrogen mobility use, commercial, and industrial use and hydrogen for domestic heating use.

The map recognises that the first wave of large-scale electrolytic hydrogen projects will be operational in 2025, including the 400MW Aberdeen H2 Hub; 300MW Cromarty Hydrogen Hub; 200MW Lowestoft hydrogen production facility; and the 250MW Hybont project.

Celia Greaves, HEA CEO and Founder, said, “We are committed to spreading this resource far and wide, fostering industry collaboration, building a strong UK hydrogen narrative, and creating commercial and investment opportunities for the hydrogen industry.

“This map is a vital resource to evidence how the UK industry acts on its ambition, and we expect it to grow rapidly as increasing numbers of projects move forward.”

Due to the map being live, projects can be added whenever, with the last update as recent as November 2023. For projects to be submitted they must have completed its FEED or been shortlisted for public funding and then they can be submitted here.
