KBR’s green ammonia technology selected for Malaysian project

KBR has announced its K-GreeN® technology has been selected by a consortium for a Malaysian green ammonia project.

Located in Sarawak, the Lotte Chemical H2biscus green ammonia project is being handled by a consortium including Lotte Chemical, Korea National Oil Corp (KNOC), and Samsung Engineering.

Under the agreement, KBR will provide technology license and proprietary engineering design to Lotte Chemical for its green ammonia project that will produce 800KTA of green ammonia from hydropower.

Doug Kelly, KBR President, Technology, said, “KBR is a leader in advancing clean hydrogen technologies and solutions, and green ammonia is a key enabler to achieving global Net Zero targets.

“Our green ammonia solutions and complementary technologies such as H2ACT make KBR to preferred technology licensors for major energy transition projects around the world.”

The company’s technology was selected for an Avina Clean Hydrogen project in Texas, the US, last April (2023). The project was expected to produce 2,200 metric tonnes of green ammonia per day.

In November (2023), KBR announced it would carry out the front-end engineering design (FEED) for EET Hydrogen’s planned 1GW HPP2 blue hydrogen production plant in the UK.

ETT Hydrogen’s plant is anticipated to produce 230,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. KBR agreed to offer its dispensing technology licensing, proprietary engineering design, vital equipment, catalysts and FEED for the 1GW plant.
