Solaris Bus & Coach has announced German operator Rheinbahn Düsseldorf has ordered 10 Urbino 12 hydrogen-powered buses.
The vehicles will be delivered to Düsseldorf in 2025 to support the German city’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2035.
The 12-metre buses are fitted with a 70kW Ballard hydrogen fuel cell and supported by Solaris high power batteries, and they will ensure the city’s strategy of adding both electric and hydrogen-powered units to its fleet is fulfilled.
Solaris’ vehicles have already been deployed in Germany, with SWK Mobil Krefeld agreeing to utilise 10 of the buses in Krefeld, set to enter operations in 2025. RVK also made its third order of Solaris buses in September (2023), to deploy on the streets of Cologne.

Olivier Michard, Member of the Solaris Management Board for Sales and Marketing, said, “Our partnership with Düsseldorf dates back to 2005, and it has included, among other things, purchases of electric buses.
“I am very pleased that our hydrogen buses will also serve the residents of Düsseldorf as part of its municipal public transport as soon as next year.”
Across Germany, Solaris has received new orders from Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Duisburg, and Gross Gerau to name a few. Its total number of Solaris hydrogen-powered buses, supplied or ordered so far, stands at more than 700 units.
