HydrogenPro appoints new CEO to support US expansion

Jeff Spethmann has been appointed CEO of HydrogenPro’s US subsidiary, HydrogenPro Inc. as the Norwegian electrolyser producer takes on its North American expansion.

Spethmann will be responsible for overseeing HydrogenPro’s North American operations and leading the company’s dynamic growth in the continent.

The incoming CEO most recently served as the Senior Vice-President for Industrial Products at Donaldson Co, a leading provider of filtration systems and replacement parts.

Commenting on his appointment, Spethmann said, “We have developed and delivered the most efficient, industrial-scale electrolyser technology to produce green hydrogen, and I look forward to the impact we will deliver in North America.”

HydrogenPro’s ASA Group CEO, Jarle Dragvik, added, “I could not hope for a better addition for HydrogenPro to lead HydrogenPro’s robust North American market.

“HydrogenPro’s growing North American business within a rapidly expanding hydrogen market will benefit from Jeff’s wide experience and leadership. We are excited about HydrogenPro’s bright future with a dynamic industry veteran like Jeff.”

HydrogenPro saw some leadership changes within the company last year (2023), with Tarjei Johansen stepping down as CEO, after the Norwegian electrolyser company revealed it was seeking “alternative ways” of financing its US expansion and North America focus.

More recently, former Chair of the Board, Ellen Hanetho, stepped away from HydrogenPro, as the company doubled down on its US focus.

Hanetho claimed the decision to step down came after strategic decisions caused a difference of views.

Last September (2023), Mitsubishi Power’s Takasago Hydrogen Park in Japan entered full-scale operation, with HydrogenPro’s alkaline electrolysers producing the hydrogen.

The electrolysers feature a production capacity of 1,100Nm³/hr and produce for the validation tests, utilising 39,000Nm³/hr of storage on site.
